There are a number of ways to check the amount of ram memory currently operating in your laptop. One of the fastest ways to see whats being used is by visiting the system bios. You will now be able to check how many ram slots you have in your system as well as the current ram setup once you have access to the memory bay. With your new ram memory at proceed to install your chip into a freely available slot otherwise remove an existing memory stick and replace with the new one.

If you intend to add additional memory to your existing configuration then make sure the new ram memory is of equal specification in size and performance. Another way apart from installing pairs is to just install a single ram unit, but this in many cases will leave you with a ram stick that is not being used. So, for improving the performance of your computer you should defragment all the data stored on the hard disk. Windows include a built-in software utility known as “Disk Defragmenter”, which is capable of defragmenting the hard disk. Follow this step every month for a better system performance.

Protect your PC against viruses: It is strongly recommended to install some good antivirus software having the automatic update feature to provide real time protection for your PC against viruses, worms and other types of malicious codes.

Finally, it is a good practice to refresh your desktops regularly. Refreshing the desktop will remove all the unused files from the RAM thereby making the system faster.

Step 5. View the files if you want to decide which all files you want to delete and click on “OK” to remove the files.

Rearrange all the stored data on the hard disk: Sometimes, the data is stored in fragmented form on the hard disk. The fragmentation of data on Hard disk results in a slower performing system. So, as to make your system a good performer the data needs to be defragmented. Windows includes a software utility known as “Disk Defragmenter”, which performs the task of defragmentation. Carry out the following steps to run Disk Defragmenter:

Step 1. Click on “Start”, and then click “My Computer”.

Step 2. Right-click on the drive from the list of available drive you wish to defragment and then click on “Properties” tab.

Step 3. Click on the “Tools” tab followed by clicking on the Defragmentation section.

Step 4. Click on the option named “Defragment now”.

Step 5. Now the Disk Defragmenter dialog box will open, select the drive to defragment and then click on “Analyze”.

Step 6. After the completing the task of analyzing the drive, click on the “Defragment” button to defragment all the data stored on that drive.

Similarly, there are several other utilities, which can improve the performance of your Windows PC. These utilities are embedded in the Windows operating system to achieve a better system performance.
